“Which foods should I buy
organic?” can be a most vexing question. The easy answer is,
“All”, or “Only the ones you’re going to
eat”.
Other answers which might be easier
on your pocket book are “The ones you’re going to eat
the most of”, and “Those that have the most chemicals,
when not bought organic”. You and only you know which foods
you’re going to eat the most of. OK, so a few close relatives
and friends probably know that answer also. And if you’re
like most people, I’d guess Ice Cream and Pizza to be the
foods you should buy organic. We all know you don’t need to
worry about vegetables, because you don’t eat very many of
them.
In fact, if you go with the other
answer, “Those that have the most chemicals, …”,
you only need to buy two vegetables organic – Corn and Green
Beans. The other two vegetables – Potatoes and Tomatoes, are
not in the list of Top Ten Chemicalled to Death Foods.
If you’re buying vegetables as
Baby Food, that’s a whole different matter. Baby Food is
number one on The List.
Several Fruits appear on this list. I
guess it’s easier to spray up high than down low. These
fruits are Strawberries, Bananas, Peaches, and Apples. Wait a
minute. What do you mean, Strawberries don’t grow up high.
You mean to tell me you never heard of Strawberry Trees? Genetic
manipulation can work wonders!
As for grains, count them all on this
list. Yes, I know that makes more than 10, but calling the list the
top 17 wouldn’t have been as appealing. The trouble with
buying according to this list, is that it can change from year to
year, and from season to season. In fact, there’s a rumor
that the fertilizer companies put different foods on a roulette
wheel and give the wheel a spin to see which food will get the most
fertilizer next year. What do you mean, I shouldn’t start
rumors? Somebody’s got to!
So, it should be very easy to avoid
the top 10 to 17 list, since all you buy is Ice Cream and Pizza
– correct?
I wish somebody would explain to me
why organic foods are called “organic”. I mean, there
are no organic chemicals used on them. Or vice-versa, why are
organic chemicals called “organic”? They aren’t
used to grow organic foods.
And that old saying, “An apple
a day keeps the doctor away”, may only be true if the apple
is organic.
