Contrary to any mis-leading
impression you may have gathered from the title, we’re not
talking about money here. At least not any money coming in. You and
I both wish we were, but we’re not. We’re talking about
where can I buy (money going out) this food.
Well, the best place to look is at
farmer’s markets and CSA’s. CSA stands for Community
Supported Agriculture and basically means you buy shares in the
farm. In exchange for buying shares, you get to take home some of
the produce. These resources in your area can be found at www.localharvest.org. CSA’s
sometimes sell their left-overs at farmer’s markets, so if
you can find one of those, you might be set. Another place to find
farms is at www.organickitchen.com. Try
this website also for all types of foods and restaurants –
their list is much longer than mine.
The next place to try is health food
stores. And, some supermarkets even carry organic foods now. As for
mail order, I’ve provided a list of possible resources below.
I’ve underlined the names of the ones we’ve
tried.
The best tasting nuts and dried
fruits can be found at Sun Organic Farms –
888-269-9888 or www.sunorganic.com. They also have
other items, but I’ve only ordered nuts and dried fruits from
them. Other places you can try for Nuts and Fruits are Living Tree
Community – 800-260-5543 or www.livingtreecommunity.com,
and Jaffe Brothers – 760-749-1133 or http://organicfruitsandnuts.com.
For vegetables and a host of other
items, Diamond Organics is the best, but watch the shipping
charge! 888-ORGANIC or www.diamondorganics.com.
Another place for produce is www.maryjanesfarm.com.
Bread can be found at Baldwin Hill
– 800-721-4057 or www.baldwinhill.com, Fieldstone
Artisan’s – 604-531-7880 or http://fieldstonebread.com, French
Meadow Bakeries – 877-NoYeast or www.frenchmeadow.com, and
Summercorn Foods – 501-521-9338 or www.straw.com/summercorn/summer_products.html.
Edible Oils can be found at
California Oils Corp - http://www.caloils.com/.
Another online natural food store
besides Diamond Organics is PCC Natural Markets at www.pccnaturalmarkets.com.
Another is www.zerbos.com, and
then there’s the biggies – www.wholefoodsmarket.com and
www.wildoats.com.
Hemp foods can be found at www.hemporer.com and www.hempnut.com.
And for restaurants try www.chowbaby.com, or better yet
– www.ecomall.com for
vegetarian restaurants.
All this talk of food is making me
hungry. I guess I’d better fire up the old PC, so I can order
some eats. With any luck at all, they’ll be here tomorrow,
before I completely starve to death!
